How do i build a good habit of posting?

I’ve had this blog for quite some time now. Thinking about doing a post from time to time, but mostly forgetting about it and never getting into writing any posts at all. My new years resolution was to publish more. Trying to make it measurable i went for 12 posts in a year. Today is the 13th of march, and i haven’t done any posting yet. In fact my latest post was in september last year (!). When making the resolution i also jotted down some ideas on how to overcome the “writingblock” and build a good habit of posting regularly. I don’t remember the details now but one was to lower the barrier for writing by as much as possible. This for instance would be to lower my standard for what was “postable”, and just write some stuff – put it online and move on to the next post. The intention was to make it at habit to write, and to build some ideas over time.

Building ideas over time also relates to a barrier of mine that many others probably know of too. The wish for stuff to be damn near perfect before showing it to the world. This blocks my wish for posting as my ideas has to be “perfect” in order to publish. Truth is that no idea is perfect when it’s born in the head. Ideas always has some kind of fragile and immature quality that lays very far from “perfect”. Thinking about it, this is really a self-enforcing barrier to writing and posting, as ideas that could start a habit of posting more regularly has this built-in quality that blocks me from posting it. Hmm..

Another way of lowering barrier to posting is to change perspective of posting. This applies to any other social media platform as well. My perspective is to make this for myself. As a notebook – but a public kind. That is, first and foremost this is for myself. A place to store notes and thoughts about the proces of reaching my goal. This proces of externalising my work and thoughts helps me stay on track and remind me of forgotten knowledge. This is the primary reason to do this. The public part – the possibility to build a network to discuss my proces – is secondary. It’s my belief that this ordering of reasons to write about my proces publicly keeps it interesting for myself as well as for potential readers.
